Combating Writer’s Block

Combating Writer’s Block

Posted on 11. Aug, 2010 by in Blogging, Copywriting, Marketing

We all know how powerful a  blog’s content can be, especially as a marketing tool. For an online content writer –or any writer in general, for that matter –writer’s block is the bane of their existence, since it hampers work performance to a considerable degree. If you would care to remember, the lifeblood any website lies in its articles and the backlinks that they provide. Without them, a website has a diminished chance of getting high rankings on search engines, which then leads to a marked difference in sales. That’s how important the job of an online content writer is, and if you’re one of them, then you should know how to combat writer’s block and get the job done. Here are some tips on how to do it:

Discipline. This is what sets amateur writers from professional ones. Amateur writers write whatever they want at their own convenience, waiting for inspiration to strike at the most unexpected moments. But as a professional writer, the task of writing becomes your duty, and you are required to write what is asked of you. Professionals know that inspiration can come from anywhere. Thus, it is important to develop a habit of writing. Personally, I find that a cup of coffee before going to work helps stimulate my mind, and this has become my ritual for focus even during most of my down time.

Be observant. Remember that there’s a whole world around you that provides you with a veritable mine of information for you to extract, interpret and present. Even the smallest of things that attract your attention can be transformed into writing. Write it down, relate it to your website’s theme, and you have an instant post. This can take a lot of practice, but it gets easier the more you do it.

Keep writing! Of course you come up empty from time to time, but this doesn’t mean that you’ve lost it forever. Just keep writing! List down ideas, edit again, and write more and more and more. Perhaps you get some criticism about your writing sometimes, but take it constructively and apply it to your craft.

These are some of the things that can help you win against the plague of writer’s block. While it may be hard initially, take these into consideration and put them into practice –in the long run, you’ll be glad you did.
