E-books also known as electronic book or eco-book started out from the idea of one guy, Michael Hart during the widening use of the computer in the 1970’s. He believed that in the storage power of computers even in housing texts from old or new books in the publishing market. Twenty years after, the e-books are almost synonymous to their hard copy counterparts in the bookshelves of bookstores. The good thing about this technology is that it saved tons of trees from being used as paperback to reading materials and other similar printed references. Roughly nine pounds of carbon is produced by making one book alone and preferring e-books can save up to 12.4 millions tons of carbon dioxide yearly by preventing mass production of hard copy books.

The e-book also prompted the revolution for paper-less transactions in homes and offices. Online billing and bill payments, bank transactions, and other pulp-filled processes became more manageable with online transactions and e-commerce to name a few. E-books have been evolving in many formats for different users; that is why it failed to maintain itself in the mainstream of its targeted market. Nonetheless, the invention of e-book readers made e-books more accessible to millions of book worms world wide and are still attracting a lot more readers by the day.

Over three million downloads per month is made by people who like to read e-books. Just imagine how much you could contribute to the wellness of Mother Earth by reading an e-book as to buying a book.
