How to Write a Brilliant Product Catalog
Posted on 23. Jul, 2010 by admin in Copywriting, Marketing, Online PR
A good product almost always needs advertising to push sales. Copywriters who usually write catalog entries encourage a concise and attractive writing approach in achieving attention grabbing product write-ups. A decent product catalog can persuade buyers in a very limited space of print. You must use the right tone and voice in convincing product viewers that your product can be the answer to what they might be looking for. So how do we go about composing a compelling catalog?
- Apply the KISS (Keep it short and simple) principle. Restrain your inner Shakespeare because viewers can only spare you about eight seconds of their time when they read your product review.
- Relate your product description and details to the photo of your product. Point out the use and the corresponding features to make it easier to the browser to place the product in their daily activities.
- Decide the purpose of the product. The tone and voice of the words for the product catalog should reflect the possible users of the product. If the product is aligned with practicality, then stress “durability” or “usable” but for the fashionable crowd you can make use of the words “chic” or “classy”.
- Get your thesaurus working. Do not settle for mediocre words but prefer to use grandiose adjectives that command recognition from your viewer. Instead of “beautiful” use “vibrant”. Remember, you only have limited space to get your sales point across.
- Utilize industry-specific jargon. People with common interests or fields share some private lingo so you can freely use them in catalog. This can identify with the possible buyers who know the same industry or product lines.
You should also take into consideration the marketing team of the product you are writing for in making your effective catalog so you can work together to entice the product audience together. Before drafting the final copy, let others you are working with give feedback so that you can improve your catalog better.
